Paris Vécu – Produce Sellers at Les Halles – Antique French Postcard
Details
Original early twentieth-century French postcard from the “Paris Vécu” series, published by L. J. & Cie, Angoulême-Paris.
This atmospheric photographic postcard depicts “Marchands de primeurs aux Halles”, a group of produce sellers at the famous Les Halles market district in Paris.
The scene shows merchants posing beside baskets, crates and market goods beneath the arcaded market buildings. Period advertisements and posters cover the surrounding pillars, adding rich visual detail and offering a vivid glimpse of commercial life in old Paris.
The image is a particularly evocative record of food trading, market culture and everyday working life in Paris at the beginning of the twentieth century.
Printed at the lower edge:
“26. Paris Vécu. — Marchands de primeurs aux Halles”
and
“L. J. & Cie, édit., Angoulême-Paris”
This example is unused and unposted, with a divided back, no correspondence, no postage stamp and no postal cancellation.
A pencil inventory notation reading “N°41” is visible in the upper left corner of the reverse.
A particularly attractive piece for collectors of old Paris, Les Halles, food history, market trades, social history and antique French postcards.
