Terms of service

Last updated: 18 October 2026

1. Overview

Welcome to Escritorie.

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Escritorie website and your purchases from our online store. Throughout these Terms, “Escritorie”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the business operating this online store.

By visiting our website, browsing our collections or placing an order, you agree to these Terms of Service together with our Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, Shipping & Returns Policy and any other policies made available on this website.

Our online store is hosted by Shopify, which provides the e-commerce platform that enables us to offer our products and services to you. Your purchase contract is concluded with Escritorie, not with Shopify.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any mandatory rights granted to consumers under applicable Belgian or European Union law.

2. About our products

Escritorie specialises in antique and vintage paper items, including invoices, letters, correspondence, postcards, historical documents, ephemera and other collectible papers. We also offer a curated selection of antique and vintage decorative objects and curiosities for collectors and cabinet-of-curiosities displays.

Most items offered by Escritorie are pre-owned, antique or vintage and are often unique pieces.

Signs of age such as folds, discoloration, stains, handwriting, stamps, tears, creases, worn edges or other traces of previous use may be present. Where relevant, these characteristics are described and/or shown in the product photographs and form part of the condition and character of the item.

We make every reasonable effort to describe and photograph each item accurately. Product photographs form an important part of the description.

Colours may vary slightly depending on your screen or device. Measurements, dates and other descriptive information are provided as accurately as reasonably possible.

3. Product availability

Many Escritorie items are unique and available in a quantity of one.

Adding an item to your cart does not reserve it until the order has been successfully completed.

In the unlikely event that an item becomes unavailable because of an inventory error, simultaneous sale through another authorised sales channel or another exceptional circumstance, we will notify you promptly and refund any payment received for the unavailable item.

4. Orders

When you place an order, you confirm that the information provided during checkout is complete and accurate.

After placing an order, you will receive an electronic confirmation.

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order for legitimate reasons, including suspected fraud, payment problems, obvious pricing errors, incorrect product information or product unavailability.

If we cancel an order after payment has been received, the amount paid for the cancelled item or order will be refunded.

5. Prices and payment

Prices are displayed in the currency indicated on the website.

Applicable taxes will be included or displayed as required by law.

Shipping costs and any other applicable charges will be shown before you complete your purchase.

Payment must be made using one of the payment methods offered at checkout.

We reserve the right to correct obvious pricing or typographical errors. If such an error affects an order already placed, we will contact you before proceeding.

6. Shipping and delivery

Orders are carefully prepared and shipped from Brussels, Belgium.

Shipping methods, costs and available destinations are described in our Shipping & Returns Policy and/or displayed during checkout.

Delivery times are estimates only. Delays may occur because of postal services, carriers, customs processing or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

Where permitted, tracked shipping is used whenever available.

Antique documents are packaged carefully in order to protect them during transport.

If your order arrives damaged, please contact us as soon as possible and keep the item and its packaging so that the situation can be assessed.

Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected by delivery delays or transport problems.

7. International orders, customs and import charges

Orders shipped outside the European Union may be subject to customs duties, import taxes, handling charges or other fees imposed by the destination country.

Unless applicable law provides otherwise, these charges are the buyer’s responsibility, except where checkout explicitly states that they are included in the total or collects them in advance.

Customs procedures may cause additional delivery delays over which Escritorie has no control.

8. Right of withdrawal and returns

Consumers who purchase online may have a statutory right to withdraw from their purchase.

For customers to whom European Union consumer legislation applies, the statutory withdrawal period is generally 14 days from receipt of the goods, subject to the exceptions provided by law.

Detailed information regarding returns, return shipping costs, damaged items and refunds is provided in our Refund Policy and Shipping & Returns Policy.

Nothing in these Terms restricts a statutory right of withdrawal or any other mandatory consumer right.

9. Condition of returned items

Where a statutory right of withdrawal applies, you may inspect an item in the same way as you reasonably could in a physical shop.

Returned items should be carefully packaged and returned complete and in the condition in which they were received.

Where permitted by law, you may be responsible for any reduction in value resulting from handling beyond what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and condition of the item.

10. Legal guarantee and conformity

Consumers benefit from the legal rights relating to conformity and defective goods provided by applicable law.

An antique or vintage item's disclosed age-related characteristics, condition, visible imperfections and signs of use form part of its description and should not be considered a lack of conformity merely because the item is old or previously used.

However, if an item is materially different from its description, defective in a manner that was not disclosed, or otherwise fails to meet applicable legal requirements, please contact us.

Nothing in these Terms limits the statutory legal guarantee or any remedies available to consumers under applicable law.

11. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the content of the Escritorie website, including photographs, graphics, logos, written descriptions, design elements and original editorial content, is owned by or licensed to Escritorie.

You may access and use the website for personal and non-commercial purposes.

You may not reproduce, copy, distribute, publish, commercially exploit or otherwise use our original website content without prior written permission, except where permitted by law.

Historical documents, trademarks, names, artworks or other material appearing within antique items may remain subject to rights belonging to their respective owners.

12. Third-party services and links

Our website may use or contain links to services provided by third parties, including payment providers, shipping companies, social media platforms and Shopify applications.

These third-party services may be subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

Escritorie is not responsible for third-party websites or services that are outside our control, except where applicable law provides otherwise.

13. Acceptable use

You may not use this website:

  • for unlawful or fraudulent purposes;
  • to interfere with the security or proper operation of the website;
  • to transmit malicious software or harmful code;
  • to obtain unauthorised access to another user's account or personal data;
  • to infringe intellectual property or other legal rights;
  • to submit false, misleading or abusive information.

We may restrict access to the website where reasonably necessary to protect Escritorie, our customers or the operation of the store.

14. Errors and website availability

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that information on this website is accurate and current.

Occasionally, information may contain typographical errors, inaccuracies or omissions relating to product descriptions, availability, prices, shipping or other matters.

We may correct such errors when discovered.

We do not guarantee that the website will always be available without interruption, but nothing in this section affects rights that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

15. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be prohibited by law, nor does anything in these Terms limit your mandatory consumer rights.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Escritorie will not be liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses that were not caused by a breach of our obligations.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, intentional misconduct, gross negligence or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

16. Events outside our reasonable control

We will not be responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as significant postal disruption, carrier disruption, customs delays, natural disasters, governmental measures or major technical failures.

Where such circumstances affect an order, we will make reasonable efforts to inform you and find an appropriate solution.

Your mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

17. Privacy

Personal information provided through this website is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection legislation.

Please review the Privacy Policy available on this website for information about how personal information is collected, used and protected.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms of Service when necessary to reflect changes in our business, website, services or applicable law.

The version applicable to your purchase is the version in force when your order is placed.

Material changes will apply prospectively and will not remove rights that you already acquired under an existing contract.

19. Governing law and consumer rights

These Terms and contracts concluded through Escritorie are governed by Belgian law, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply to you.

If you are a consumer residing in another country, this choice of law does not deprive you of mandatory protections granted by the law of your country of residence where such protections apply.

Any dispute will be submitted to the competent court or dispute-resolution body determined in accordance with applicable law.

We encourage customers to contact Escritorie first so that we can attempt to resolve any concern amicably.

20. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
