Details

Original early twentieth-century French postcard from the “Paris Vécu” series, published by L. J. & Cie, Angoulême-Paris.

This atmospheric photographic postcard depicts the “Charmeur d’Oiseaux aux Tuileries” – a bird charmer standing in the Tuileries Garden in Paris, surrounded by pigeons and watched by a group of curious onlookers.

The scene offers a vivid glimpse of everyday Parisian leisure and public life at the beginning of the twentieth century. The elegant promenade, period clothing and gathering of spectators give the image a particularly evocative Belle Époque atmosphere.

A handwritten “Bonne Fête” greeting appears on the lower left of the front, adding further personal character to the postcard.

Printed at the lower edge:

“Paris Vécu. — Charmeur d’Oiseaux aux Tuileries”

and

“L. J. & Cie, édit., Angoulême-Paris”

This example is circulated and posted, with an undivided address-only back, handwritten addressing, an original green French 5-centime postage stamp and postal cancellations.

A charming piece for collectors of old Paris, the Tuileries, social history, postal history and antique French postcards.
