Le Bonnet de Grand'Mère – A Charming Belle Époque Story of a Little Girl and Her Dog

A delightful set of five original antique French photographic postcards published by A. Bergeret & Cie in Nancy, France, in the early 20th century.

Entitled Le Bonnet de Grand'Mère (Grandmother's Bonnet), this charming series tells a playful story featuring a little girl and her patient dog, Médor.

Through five consecutive photographic scenes, the young girl decides to play a game in which she becomes the baby and her faithful companion takes on the role of grandmother.

Seated on a small wooden chair, Médor is gradually dressed in a grandmother's bonnet, wrapped in a warm white shawl and eventually given a pair of spectacles.

The expressive photographs capture the affection between the child and her dog, combining gentle humour, imaginative childhood play and the theatrical charm of Belle Époque photography.

Each postcard bears its original numbered title and humorous French caption printed in red.

The Five Postcards

No. 1 – Le Bonnet de Grand'Mère: Let's Play Grandmother

The little girl introduces Médor to her imaginative game, inviting him to become grandmother while she plays the baby. The dog sits patiently on a small wooden chair.

No. 2 – Le Bonnet de Grand'Mère: Grandmother's Bonnet

The young girl carefully places a traditional bonnet on Médor's head, transforming her faithful companion into an amusing elderly character.

No. 3 – Le Bonnet de Grand'Mère: A Warm White Shawl

Médor is wrapped in a large white shawl and dressed for Sunday, looking increasingly like a little grandmother.

No. 4 – Le Bonnet de Grand'Mère: A Reading Lesson

The little girl opens a book in front of Médor and playfully questions his intelligence, wondering whether he has ever attended school.

No. 5 – Le Bonnet de Grand'Mère: Grandmother's Spectacles

The story reaches its amusing conclusion as Médor, now wearing a bonnet, shawl and spectacles, resembles a real grandmother.

Together, these five postcards form a delightful visual narrative celebrating childhood imagination, affection for animals and the playful spirit of early 20th-century French postcard publishing.
