1917 French Flour Mill Invoice – Minoterie de la Méditerranée, Marseille
Details
Original French ephemera: a commercial flour mill invoice dated 8 October 1917, issued by C. Caplat of the Minoterie de la Méditerranée in Marseille.
The document features a particularly attractive illustrated letterhead showing the Minoterie de la Méditerranée factory complex, together with the wording “Usine électrique perfectionnée”, the name C. Caplat, and the address 82 Avenue de St-Just, Marseille.
The invoice is addressed to Madame Pons, identified as a droguerie. Its handwritten commercial entries include “Moutarde” (mustard) and “Chanvre” (hemp), with quantities and prices entered in the ruled accounting section.
A purple fiscal/business marking with a revenue stamp remains attached to the lower portion of the document, adding further interest to this piece of French commercial and administrative history.
Dating from 1917, during the First World War, this invoice is an evocative example of early twentieth-century Marseille trade, flour milling and food-related commerce.
