1907 French Veterinary Trade Letter – Dautreville & Lebas, Paris
Details
Original French ephemera: a commercial veterinary trade letter dated 11 July 1907, issued by Anciens Établissements Dautreville & Lebas, successors to Cordier, a Paris firm specialising in animal feed and veterinary products.
The document features a highly decorative illustrated letterhead headed “Alimentation des Animaux”, with the company name “Anciens Établissements Dautreville & Lebas – Successeurs de Cordier.”
The upper section is richly illustrated with a scene showing dogs, a large horse portrait set within a horseshoe marked “Droguerie Vétérinaire Lebas”, and a series of medals and awards. The business proudly advertises 20 gold and silver medals.
The company was located at 25 Rue des Francs-Bourgeois, Paris, formerly 5 Rue du Parc-Royal, and gives the telegraphic address DIERCOR-PARIS.
The letter, typed in purple ink, concerns an unpaid commercial draft connected with invoice no. 1003. The company explains that the payment instrument drawn on the customer has been returned unpaid and asks either for an explanation or for a money order to settle the account.
It further states that, unless advised otherwise within eight days, the company intends to draw again on the customer at a later maturity.
Handwritten annotations appear within the typed text, and the letter closes with an original handwritten signature.
A particularly attractive example of early twentieth-century French commercial correspondence combining veterinary history, animal-feed trade, financial practices and decorative advertising design.
