Paris Vécu – Modern Style, Early Automobile in Paris – Antique French Postcard
Details
Original early twentieth-century French postcard from the “Paris Vécu” series, published by L. J. & Cie, Angoulême-Paris.
This striking photographic postcard is titled “Modern Style” and depicts an early motorcar in a busy Parisian street scene.
A woman and a man are seated in the open automobile, while another horse-drawn vehicle can be seen nearby. Shopfronts, pedestrians and urban activity in the background create a vivid glimpse of Paris at the beginning of the motor age, when automobiles were still an unusual and modern sight on the city’s streets.
The image is particularly appealing for collectors interested in early motoring, transport history, Parisian street life and Belle Époque photography.
Printed at the lower edge:
“22. Paris Vécu. — « Modern Style »”
and
“L. J. & Cie, édit., Angoulême-Paris”
This example is circulated and posted, with a divided back, handwritten correspondence and addressing, an original green French 5-centime postage stamp, and postal cancellation marks.
Handwritten period inscriptions are also visible on the front of the postcard.
A particularly interesting piece combining old Paris, early automobile history, social history and postal history.
