1968 Alexis Dubois Archive – Treaty of Rome Anniversary Medal Documents
Details
A historically significant two-document archival group relating to the award of an Italian silver commemorative medal to Belgian and European civil servant Alexis-Théodore-Camille Dubois in recognition of his contribution to European integration.
Dating from March and April 1968, the documents concern the silver medal issued by the Italian Government to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome and intended for officials of the European institutions whose work had contributed significantly to the development of European integration.
At this stage of his career, Alexis Dubois was serving within the Commission of the European Communities, following a long career in the Belgian Customs and Excise Administration.

Historical context
This small archival group is particularly interesting because it documents the European dimension of Alexis Dubois’s career after decades of service within the Belgian Customs and Excise Administration.
The correspondence directly links him with the Commission of the European Communities, the Permanent Representation of Italy, and the commemoration of the Treaties of Rome, placing the documents within the formative period of post-war European integration.
The two letters form a complete exchange: the official Italian transmission of the distinction followed by Dubois’s own signed acknowledgement.
The commemorative medal itself is not included. The sale concerns the two original documents only.
From the original Alexis Dubois Archive.
