1915 French Horticultural Receipt – Pierre Pidoux, Paris
Details
Original French ephemera: a horticultural receipt dated 7 June 1915, issued on the richly illustrated floral letterhead of Pierre Pidoux, a horticultural establishment specialising in plant rental and decorative greenery in Paris and Saint-Ouen.
The striking blue printed letterhead advertises an “Établissement de Culture” at 149 Avenue des Batignolles, Saint-Ouen, together with services for plant rental and decorative arrangements for balls and evening events.
The business name Pierre Pidoux appears prominently within an ornate floral design. The letterhead also mentions a sales shop at 36 Rue Ballu, Paris, the title Officier du Mérite Agricole, and references to the 1900 Universal Exhibition and first-prize distinctions.
The handwritten text records a receipt for 600 francs, relating to a rental period running from 31 July 1914 to 31 July 1915.
Two original 10-centime French revenue stamps remain attached to the lower portion of the document and bear handwritten/cancelled markings, adding further interest for collectors of fiscal and commercial ephemera.
A particularly attractive piece of early twentieth-century French paper history, combining horticulture, decorative trades, Parisian commercial life and fiscal history.
